Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control invites the community to take part in our Steps for Shelter Pets Walk—a powerful initiative to raise awareness of the staggering 10,800 animals that have entered our shelter in 2025 alone.

Each lap walked symbolizes an animal that has entered through our doors, shedding light on the overwhelming intake numbers and the importance of adopting, donating, fostering, and responsible pet ownership.

Our goal is to raise $5 per lap, with a total target of $54,000 to support vital shelter initiatives. Participants are encouraged to secure their own sponsors to help them reach their personal lap goals and maximize their impact!

We are looking forward to seeing Charlotte Step UP!

We are overwhelmed with excitement to announce our first ever 5K fundraiser! The fundraiser is a collaborative effort between Every Life Matters, Project Safe Pet, and Halfway There Rescue. The proceeds from this event will be used to fund York County’s free spay/neuter program. Currently, our free program prevents thousands of animals from reproducing each year, and with your help, we can help even more animals in 2019!

Registration is $30 & includes a T-shirt.
